Ingredients
For the Hamburger Steaks:
- 1.5 lbs (680g) 93% lean ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup fine breadcrumbs or oat flour
- ¼ cup finely diced yellow onion
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp freshly cracked black pepper
For the Gravy & Bake:
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup (low-sodium/reduced fat preferred)
- ½ cup low-sodium beef broth or water
- ½ cup sliced fresh mushrooms (optional, for extra texture)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (for the gravy)
Instructions
- Preheat & PrepPreheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray a 9×13-inch glass baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- Form the PattiesIn a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, diced onion, garlic powder, onion powder, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands just until combined (do not overmix, or the steaks will become tough). Shape into 4 equal thick, oval patties and place them in the baking dish.
- Mix the GravyIn a small bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, and sliced fresh mushrooms (if using) until smooth.
- Assemble & BakePour the mushroom gravy mixture evenly over the top of raw beef patties, making sure each patty is completely covered.
- Bake to PerfectionBake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) and the gravy is bubbling around the edges.
- ServeSpoon the warm mushroom gravy over the steaks and serve hot alongside mashed cauliflower, brown rice, or roasted green beans.
