High-Protein Hamburger Steak with Cream of Mushroom Gravy

Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks:

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) 93% lean ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
  • 1 large egg
  • ⅓ cup fine breadcrumbs or oat flour
  • ¼ cup finely diced yellow onion
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp freshly cracked black pepper

For the Gravy & Bake:

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup (low-sodium/reduced fat preferred)
  • ½ cup low-sodium beef broth or water
  • ½ cup sliced fresh mushrooms (optional, for extra texture)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (for the gravy)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & PrepPreheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray a 9×13-inch glass baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Form the PattiesIn a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, diced onion, garlic powder, onion powder, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands just until combined (do not overmix, or the steaks will become tough). Shape into 4 equal thick, oval patties and place them in the baking dish.
  3. Mix the GravyIn a small bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, and sliced fresh mushrooms (if using) until smooth.
  4. Assemble & BakePour the mushroom gravy mixture evenly over the top of raw beef patties, making sure each patty is completely covered.
  5. Bake to PerfectionBake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) and the gravy is bubbling around the edges.
  6. ServeSpoon the warm mushroom gravy over the steaks and serve hot alongside mashed cauliflower, brown rice, or roasted green beans.
