9 whole wheat lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions
1 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded (for topping)
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare the Meat Sauce:
In a large skillet, brown the ground turkey or beef over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, cooking until the onions are softened.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Prepare the Cheese Filling:
In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Assemble the Lasagna:
In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom.
Place three cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
Spread half of the cheese filling over the noodles.
Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of meat sauce on top.
Top with Mozzarella:
Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the top layer.
Bake:
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Rest and Serve:
Allow the lasagna to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
