Yield: 12 poppers
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15–20 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Ingredients
- 6 large fresh jalapeño peppers
- 4 oz (115 g) Brie cheese, rind removed and cut into small pieces
- ½ cup fresh blueberries
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons honey
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro or parsley
- ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped walnuts or pecans, optional
For Finishing
- 1–2 tablespoons honey
- Fresh blueberries, optional
- Fresh cilantro or parsley, for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Jalapeños
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Wash the jalapeños and slice each one lengthwise.
- Carefully remove the seeds and membranes using a small spoon. Leave some membrane if you want the poppers extra spicy.
- Arrange the jalapeño halves cut-side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
2. Make the Filling
- In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, Brie, honey, black pepper, and salt.
- Gently fold in the blueberries and chopped cilantro or parsley.
- Mix until everything is evenly combined while keeping some blueberries whole.
3. Fill the Jalapeños
- Spoon the Brie and blueberry mixture into each jalapeño half.
- Don’t overfill them because the cheese will melt during baking.
- Mix the panko breadcrumbs with melted butter and optional chopped nuts.
- Sprinkle a little of the breadcrumb mixture over each popper.
4. Bake
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the jalapeños are tender and the Brie is melted and bubbling.
- For a more golden topping, switch to broil for the final 1–2 minutes, watching carefully so they don’t burn.
5. Finish and Serve
- Remove the poppers from the oven and let them cool for 3–5 minutes.
- Drizzle lightly with honey.
- Garnish with fresh blueberries and chopped herbs if desired.
- Serve warm.
💡 Tips
- Use firm, slightly underripe blueberries so they hold their shape better while baking.
- Brie pairs especially well with honey because its creamy, buttery flavor balances the jalapeño’s heat.
- For an extra-crispy topping, use panko breadcrumbs rather than regular breadcrumbs.
- You can prepare the poppers several hours ahead and refrigerate them until you’re ready to bake.
