Weight Watchers Homemade Caramel Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup fat-free evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Allow the mixture to come to a boil without stirring. Swirl the pan occasionally to ensure even caramelization.
  3. Continue cooking until the sugar turns a deep amber color. Be attentive and watch carefully to avoid burning.
  4. Once the desired color is achieved, remove the pan from heat and carefully whisk in the evaporated milk. The mixture will bubble, so be cautious.
  5. Return the pan to low heat and whisk until smooth.
  6. Add the butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Continue whisking until the butter is fully melted and the caramel is smooth and well combined.
  7. Remove the caramel sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before transferring it to a jar or container.
  8. Allow the caramel sauce to cool completely before sealing the container.
