Ingredients
- 4 large sweet onions Vidalia-style, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 1 cup crushed buttery crackers
- 2 tablespoons melted butter for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
- Soften the onions:
- In a large skillet, melt the 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook 10–12 minutes until onions are tender and lightly golden. Remove from heat.
- Mix the filling:
- In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, paprika, and shredded cheddar. Stir in the cooked onions until evenly coated.
- Assemble:
- Spread the onion mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Make the topping:
- In a small bowl, mix crushed crackers with the melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the casserole.
