Slow Cooker Maid-Rites

Not all recipes have to be over the top to deliver on satisfaction and flavor and this classic recipe proves it. The beloved Maid-Rite sandwich has been a staple in Iowa for generations and it’s easy to see why. Unlike a traditional sloppy joe, a Maid-Rite sandwich skips the tomato-based sauce entirely, letting the savory seasoned beef really shine. And this slow cooker version couldn’t be much easier to throw together. Let’s get into how they’re made…

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ground Beef, browned and drained
  • 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Buns, for serving
  • Dill pickles chips, for serving
Preparation
  1. Add all ingredients to the slow cooker and mix to combine.
  2. Cook on low for 6 hours, stirring halfway through cooktime.
  3. Serve hot on buns with pickles and mustard.
