Ingredients

For the Casserole:

  • 1 lb pork breakfast sausage
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (1-pound) loaf of sourdough bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Egg Custard:

  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Cook sausage and onion in a skillet until browned. Drain the grease.
