KENTUCKY BUTTER CAKE
Ingredients:
For the cake:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the butter sauce:
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat and prepare: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a 10-cup bundt pan or tube pan.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat together softened butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth and well incorporated.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan. Smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Make the butter sauce: In a saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Prepare the cake: Once the cake is done baking, leave it in the pan and poke holes all over the top using a skewer or fork. Slowly pour the butter sauce over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in.
- Cool and serve: Let the cake cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, invert the cake onto a serving plate. Slice and serve!
