KENTUCKY BUTTER CAKE

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the butter sauce:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat and prepare: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a 10-cup bundt pan or tube pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat together softened butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth and well incorporated.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan. Smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Make the butter sauce: In a saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Prepare the cake: Once the cake is done baking, leave it in the pan and poke holes all over the top using a skewer or fork. Slowly pour the butter sauce over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in.
  8. Cool and serve: Let the cake cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, invert the cake onto a serving plate. Slice and serve!
