This Hamburger Mushroom Bake is a hearty, comforting casserole packed with seasoned ground beef, tender mushrooms, and layers of melty cheese. It’s an easy, family-friendly dinner that comes together with simple ingredients and delivers rich, savory flavor in every bite. Perfect for busy weeknights or cozy weekends!

Ingredients

Meat & Vegetables

  • 1 lb 450g ground beef
  • 8 oz 225g fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced

Creamy Base

  • 1 cup 240 ml sour cream
  • ½ cup 120 ml heavy cream
  • 1 cup 100g shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup 50g shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter

Seasonings

  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp dried thyme optional
  • ¼ tsp chili flakes optional for heat

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven
  • Set oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  • Cook the Beef
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add ground beef and cook until browned (about 5–7 minutes).
  • Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • Sauté Vegetables
  • In the same pan, add onion and garlic. Cook 2–3 minutes.
  • Add mushrooms and cook until softened and most moisture evaporates (about 5–7 minutes).
  • Stir in thyme and chili flakes if using.
  • Combine the Creamy Mixture
  • In a bowl, mix sour cream and heavy cream until smooth.
  • Stir in half of the mozzarella.
  • Assemble
  • Spread beef evenly in the baking dish.
  • Layer mushroom mixture over the beef.
  • Pour creamy mixture evenly on top.
  • Sprinkle remaining mozzarella and cheddar over everything.
  • Bake
  • Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and golden on top.
  • Rest & Serve
  • Let sit for 5–10 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
