Eat Smothered Green Beans
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
- 6 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt to taste (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Green Beans:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the green beans and cook for about 5 minutes or until they are tender but still crisp.
- Drain the beans and immediately plunge them into ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain again and set aside.
- Cook the Bacon:
- In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it is crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Sauté the Onions and Garlic:
- In the same skillet with the bacon grease, add the diced onion and sauté until it becomes soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Make the Sauce:
- Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt.
- Stir in the soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until it slightly thickens.
- Combine Everything:
- Add the green beans to the skillet, tossing them in the sauce until they are well coated.
- Stir in the cooked bacon and continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
- Serve:
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding salt if needed.
- Transfer the smothered green beans to a serving dish and enjoy!
