Eat Smothered Green Beans

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt to taste (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Green Beans:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Add the green beans and cook for about 5 minutes or until they are tender but still crisp.
    • Drain the beans and immediately plunge them into ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain again and set aside.
  2. Cook the Bacon:
    • In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it is crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
  3. Sauté the Onions and Garlic:
    • In the same skillet with the bacon grease, add the diced onion and sauté until it becomes soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Make the Sauce:
    • Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt.
    • Stir in the soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
    • Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until it slightly thickens.
  5. Combine Everything:
    • Add the green beans to the skillet, tossing them in the sauce until they are well coated.
    • Stir in the cooked bacon and continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
  6. Serve:
    • Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding salt if needed.
    • Transfer the smothered green beans to a serving dish and enjoy!
