Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef, turkey, or chicken
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup no-sugar-added pizza or marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Β½ tsp garlic powder
  • ΒΌ tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ΒΌ cup grated Parmesan
  • Β½ cup sliced black olives, optional
  • Β½ cup turkey pepperoni, chopped, optional
  • Red pepper flakes, optional

Directions

  1. Brown the meat: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat and cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook for 5–6 minutes, until the vegetables soften.
  3. Stir in pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper. Simmer for 3–4 minutes.
  4. Divide the mixture among 4 oven-safe bowls or leave it in the skillet if oven-safe.
  5. Top with mozzarella, Parmesan, and optional turkey pepperoni or olives.
  6. Broil for 2–4 minutes, until the cheese is melted and lightly golden. Watch carefully.
  7. Let cool for a couple of minutes before serving.
