Ingredients
- 2 large sweet onions
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Cooking spray
- Optional: ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the onions:
Peel the onions and cut them into large wedges. Gently separate the layers into individual onion petals. - Prepare the egg mixture:
Whisk the eggs in a bowl. Add a little salt and black pepper. - Prepare the coating:
In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and Parmesan if using. - Coat the onion petals:
Dip each onion petal into the beaten egg, allowing the excess to drip off. Then coat thoroughly with the seasoned breadcrumbs. Press gently so the coating sticks. - Air fry:
Preheat the air fryer to 190°C (374°F). Arrange the coated onion petals in a single layer and lightly spray them with cooking spray. - Cook:
Air fry for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. For extra crispiness, cook for another 1–2 minutes. - Serve:
Serve immediately with ranch, spicy mayo, garlic sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Tip: Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary so the onion petals become properly crispy.
