Cabbage recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 medium green cabbage, chopped (about 8 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup crushed buttery crackers or breadcrumbs (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cabbage and cook for 5 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter and sauté the onion for 4–5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, 1½ cups cheddar, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Fold in the cooked cabbage and onion mixture until evenly coated.
  6. Spread the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Top with the remaining ½ cup cheddar cheese.
  8. If using crackers or breadcrumbs, mix them with the melted butter and sprinkle over the casserole.
  9. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until hot and bubbly with a golden topping.
  10. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
