Ingredients
- 1 medium green cabbage, chopped (about 8 cups)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- ½ cup crushed buttery crackers or breadcrumbs (optional)
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cabbage and cook for 5 minutes. Drain well.
- In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter and sauté the onion for 4–5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- In a large bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, 1½ cups cheddar, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Fold in the cooked cabbage and onion mixture until evenly coated.
- Spread the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Top with the remaining ½ cup cheddar cheese.
- If using crackers or breadcrumbs, mix them with the melted butter and sprinkle over the casserole.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until hot and bubbly with a golden topping.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
