Tennessee Onions
Ingredients
- 3 large sweet onions Vidalia or yellow, sliced into ½-inch rings
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter divided
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Arrange the onion slices in an even layer in the casserole dish.
- Pour the heavy cream over the onions and sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Evenly distribute the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the onions.
- In a small bowl, mix the crushed Ritz crackers with the remaining 3 tablespoons of melted butter. Sprinkle the cracker mixture on top of the cheese.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the onions are tender, the cheese is melted, and the topping is golden brown. Serve warm!
Notes
Instructions Variant (Simplified):
Slice onions and layer in a greased casserole dish.
Add cream, seasonings, and cheese.
Top with buttery crushed crackers.
