Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup oil (or 1 cup melted butter for richer taste)
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature
  • 4 eggs, room temperature
  • 2½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup yogurt (very important for softness)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 170°C (340°F).
    Grease and line an 8-inch cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light, pale, and fluffy (3–4 minutes).
  4. Add oil (or melted butter) and mix well.
  5. Add milk, yogurt, and vanilla extract. Mix gently.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients in 2–3 batches.
    Fold gently until just combined (do NOT overmix).
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan and tap lightly to remove air bubbles.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
