- Optional: mix in 1 tsp taco seasoning for extra flavor
Layer 2: Seasoned Ground Meat
- 1 lb lean ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
- 2 tsp taco seasoning
- 2 tbsp water
Layer 3: Sour Cream or Greek Yogurt
- 1 cup light sour cream or plain non-fat Greek yogurt (for a healthier twist)
Layer 4: Salsa or Pico de Gallo
- 1 cup chunky salsa or freshly made pico de gallo
Layer 5: Shredded Cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (reduced-fat if preferred)
Layer 6: Diced Tomatoes and Olives
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/3 cup sliced black olives
Layer 7: Crunchy Topping
- 1 cup crushed tortilla chips, corn chips, or even crunchy taco shells
Optional Garnishes:
- Chopped green onions
- Fresh cilantro
- Jalapeño slices
- Avocado chunks or guacamole
🥣 Instructions:
- Cook the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat. Stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer until fully blended and flavorful. Let it cool slightly.
- Layer the salad: In a large glass dish or trifle bowl, begin layering:
- Bottom: Chopped lettuce
- Next: Refried beans (spread evenly)
- Then: Seasoned meat
- Then: Sour cream or Greek yogurt
- Then: Salsa or pico
- Followed by: Shredded cheese
- Top with: Tomatoes, olives, and finally the crunchy chips
- Chill (Optional): You can refrigerate for 30–60 minutes to let the flavors blend, though it’s also great served fresh.
- Serve: Scoop with a large spoon or spatula, making sure to get a bit of each layer in every serving. Serve alone or with additional chips on the side.
