Rustic British Minced Beef Pie with Sweet Caramelized Onions and Flaky Pastry

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

2 tablespoons butter

2 large onions, thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 cup beef broth

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

1 egg, beaten

Fresh parsley for garnish

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.

Add sliced onions and cook slowly for 20-25 minutes, stirring often, until deeply caramelized and golden brown.

Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Push onions to the side of the skillet and add olive oil.

Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.

Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir well.

Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, smoked paprika, and beef broth.

Simmer for 8-10 minutes until the filling thickens into a rich savory gravy.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Transfer the beef filling into a pie dish and let cool slightly.

Cover with puff pastry and trim excess edges.

Crimp the edges with a fork and cut small slits on top for ventilation.

Brush the pastry with beaten egg for a golden finish.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until the crust is puffed and deeply golden.

Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
