How To Make Grilled Mushroom Cheese Sandwich

Roasting the Mushrooms and Onions:

Let’s kick things off by preheating your oven to a toasty 400°F (200°C). While it’s heating up, grab a bowl and toss those sliced mushrooms and onions with a generous drizzle of olive oil, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and if you’re feeling adventurous, a sprinkle of thyme for that extra flavor dimension.

Once everything is nicely coated, spread them out evenly on a baking sheet, ensuring they’re in a single, inviting layer.

Pop them into the preheated oven, and let the magic happen for about 20–25 minutes. Keep an eye on them, giving them a gentle stir halfway through for that perfect, even roast.

Preparing the Sandwich:

While those veggies are getting their roast on, let’s focus on the star of the show — the sandwich. Grab your favorite bread slices and give one side of each a loving slather of butter. Now, heat up a skillet or griddle over a medium flame, getting it nice and cozy for our sandwich masterpiece.

Assembling the Sandwich:

Once the skillet is warmed up and ready for action, it’s time to assemble. Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, onto the skillet. Now, here comes the gooey goodness — layer each slice with a generous handful of Gouda cheese slices.

Once those mushrooms and onions have achieved their golden glory in the oven, it’s time to bring them into the spotlight. Distribute them lovingly over the cheese-covered bread slices, ensuring each bite will be packed with flavor. Top it all off with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up, completing the delicious sandwich tower.

Grilling the Sandwich:

Now, let’s get grilling! Place those assembled beauties onto the skillet and let them sizzle away until the bread turns a gorgeous golden brown, and the cheese transforms into a molten masterpiece. This should take around 3–4 minutes per side.

Don’t forget to give them a gentle press with a spatula for that perfect crispiness and even melting. Adjust the heat as needed to avoid burning the bread before the cheese gets its ooey-gooey moment.

Serving:

As the sandwiches reach their pinnacle of perfection, carefully remove them from the skillet and let them cool for just a moment — though we know it’ll be hard to resist diving right in. Finally, grab a sharp knife and slice each sandwich in half, revealing the delectable layers within.

Serve them up warm, and watch as smiles spread around the table, one delicious bite at a time. Enjoy!
