Ingredients:
For the steaks:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 is ideal)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt & pepper, to taste
For the onion gravy:
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions:
- Make the hamburger steaks:
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Form into 3-4 oval patties.
- Cook the steaks:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Sear the patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside (they’ll finish cooking in the gravy).
- Make the onion gravy:
- In the same skillet, add butter and sliced onions. Cook until soft and caramelized, about 8–10 minutes.
- Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes to make a roux.
- Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until slightly thickened.
- Bring it together:
- Return hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and cover.
- Simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until steaks are cooked through and gravy is thick.
