Garlic bread

Ingredients:
- 1 loaf of Italian bread (or French bread)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried parsley)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the garlic butter:
- In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter with the minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. If you’re using red pepper flakes for some heat, add those in as well.
- Slice the bread:
- Cut the loaf of Italian or French bread in half lengthwise. If you prefer smaller pieces, you can cut it into individual slices or make smaller cuts into the loaf.
- Spread the garlic butter:
- Use a knife to spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread. Make sure to get it into all the nooks and crannies.
- Add Parmesan cheese (if using):
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered bread.
- Bake:
- Place the bread on a baking sheet, cut sides up. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crispy. If you like your garlic bread extra crispy, you can broil it for an additional 1-2 minutes, but watch it closely to prevent burning.
- Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing into pieces. Serve warm.
