Garlic bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of Italian bread (or French bread)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried parsley)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the garlic butter:
    • In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter with the minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. If you’re using red pepper flakes for some heat, add those in as well.
  3. Slice the bread:
    • Cut the loaf of Italian or French bread in half lengthwise. If you prefer smaller pieces, you can cut it into individual slices or make smaller cuts into the loaf.
  4. Spread the garlic butter:
    • Use a knife to spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread. Make sure to get it into all the nooks and crannies.
  5. Add Parmesan cheese (if using):
    • Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered bread.
  6. Bake:
    • Place the bread on a baking sheet, cut sides up. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crispy. If you like your garlic bread extra crispy, you can broil it for an additional 1-2 minutes, but watch it closely to prevent burning.
  7. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing into pieces. Serve warm.
