Add the green beans and cook for about 5 minutes or until they are tender but still crisp.
Drain the beans and immediately plunge them into ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain again and set aside.
Cook the Bacon:
In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it is crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
Sauté the Onions and Garlic:
In the same skillet with the bacon grease, add the diced onion and sauté until it becomes soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Make the Sauce:
Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt.
Stir in the soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until it slightly thickens.
Combine Everything:
Add the green beans to the skillet, tossing them in the sauce until they are well coated.
Stir in the cooked bacon and continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
Serve:
Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding salt if needed.
Transfer the smothered green beans to a serving dish and enjoy!
