🥧 Cottage Pie with Crispy Roasties (Air Fryer)

Ingredients

Meat Filling

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, diced small
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or rosemary

Crispy Roastie Topping

  • 3–4 medium potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

1. Make the Roast Potatoes

  1. Peel (optional) and cut potatoes into small chunks.
  2. Parboil in salted water for 8–10 minutes until just tender.
  3. Drain, shake to rough up edges.
  4. Toss with olive oil, salt, pepper, and optional seasonings.
  5. Air fry at 400°F (205°C) for 15–18 minutes, shaking halfway.
  6. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Cottage Pie Filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet.
  2. Sauté onion and carrot until softened (5 minutes).
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  4. Add ground beef and brown well.
  5. Stir in tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Pour in beef stock, season with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  7. Simmer 10–15 minutes until thick.
  8. Stir in peas, remove from heat.

3. Assemble

  • Spoon beef mixture into an air fryer–safe dish.
  • Arrange crispy roast potatoes evenly on top.
  • Lightly spray potatoes with oil for extra crunch.

Air Fryer Finish

  1. Cook
    • Air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 10–12 minutes
    • Until bubbling and roasties are golden
  2. Optional Extra Crisp
    • Increase to 400°F (205°C) for 2–3 minutes

Serve & Enjoy

  • Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
  • Perfect with steamed greens or gravy on the side 🥕🥬
