Air Fryer Whole Chicken recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken (about 3-4 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, rosemary, etc.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Your Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 360°F (182°C) for about 5 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Chicken: Pat the whole chicken dry with paper towels both inside and out to remove any excess moisture. Trim any excess fat and tuck the wing tips under the body of the chicken.
  3. Season the Chicken: Rub the entire surface of the chicken with olive oil, then season generously with salt and black pepper. If desired, you can also sprinkle on additional seasonings such as garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, rosemary, or your favorite poultry seasoning for added flavor.
  4. Truss the Chicken (Optional): If you prefer, you can truss the chicken by tying the legs together with kitchen twine to help it cook more evenly.
  5. Place Chicken in Air Fryer Basket: Once the air fryer is preheated, place the seasoned whole chicken breast side down in the air fryer basket.
  6. Air Fry: Cook the chicken at 360°F (182°C) for 30 minutes.
  7. Flip and Continue Cooking: After 30 minutes, carefully flip the chicken breast side up using tongs or spatulas. Continue cooking at 360°F (182°C) for another 25-35 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the chicken (typically the thigh) reaches 165°F (74°C) when measured with a meat thermometer.
  8. Rest and Serve: Once the chicken is cooked through, remove it from the air fryer and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicier chicken.
