  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon red food coloring, either liquid or gel
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 16 ounces cream cheese, full fat room temperature
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 5–6 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

Cake Instructions

  • In one large mixing bowl, mix the buttermilk, pure vanilla extract, vinegar, oil, eggs, and food coloring.
  • In another large mixing bowl, mix the sugar, cake flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
  • Pour the liquid mixture into the dry mixture, and mix well.
  • Spray the pans with non-stick cooking spray, and then pour the batter into the prepared pans.
  • Set the pans into the air fryer basket for 20-25 minutes at 320 degrees F, air fryer setting. The exact time will depend on how thick your pans are. Air fry until the toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the middle of the cake.
  • Let the cake cool, while you prepare the frosting.

To make the cream cheese frosting:

  • In a large mixing bowl, mix together the room temperature cream cheese, room temperature butter, powdered sugar, and pure vanilla extract. Mix well, mix until smooth.
  • Spread on the cake, I made two layers, so I added some cream cheese frosting in between the layers. Refrigerate the cake after icing. The cake is best served about 2 hours after refrigeration.

    • Air Fryer
    • Cake Pan
    • Cooking Spray
NotesNote: The size of the pans will depend on the size of your air fryer, obviously smaller air fryers will be able to hold smaller pans than larger air fryers) For my Air Fryer, I was able to make two 8inch round pans with the batter.NutritionServing: 1ServingCalories: 630kcalCarbohydrates: 80gProtein: 6gFat: 34gSaturated Fat: 14gPolyunsaturated Fat: 9gMonounsaturated Fat: 8gTrans Fat: 0.4gCholesterol: 74mgSodium: 142mgPotassium: 110mgFiber: 1gSugar: 64gVitamin A: 701IUCalcium: 70mgIron: 1mg
