Store-bought puff pastry sheets (thawed if frozen)
Optional fillings (see ideas below)
A little water or plant-based milk for brushing
Optional: powdered sugar, cinnamon, or sesame seeds
Instructions (General Guide):
Prep the Puff Pastry: Start by gently unfolding your puff pastry sheet on a floured surface. If it’s frozen, let it thaw just until pliable (about 30–40 minutes at room temp). Cut into desired shapes — squares, rectangles, circles, or use cookie cutters for fun.
Fill or Leave Plain: If making filled pastries, add a small spoonful of your chosen filling (see below) in the center of each cut piece. Fold, seal edges with a fork, and brush the top lightly with water or plant-based milk for a golden finish.
Air Fry to Golden Glory: Place the prepared pieces in your air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving space between them. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes, or until puffed and deeply golden. No preheating needed for most air fryers!
Cool and Enjoy: Let pastries cool for a few minutes — they’ll crisp up more as they sit. Dust with powdered sugar for sweet versions, or serve warm for the full flaky experience.
Filling Ideas:
Sweet:
Nutella or vegan chocolate spread
Fruit jam or preserves
Cinnamon sugar and vegan cream cheese
Apple pie filling or sliced bananas with maple syrup
Savory:
Vegan cheese and spinach
Mashed spiced potatoes
Mushroom and garlic sauté
Sundried tomatoes and olive tapenade
Pro Tips:
Don’t overfill — a little goes a long way and prevents leaking.
Work fast — puff pastry puffs best when cold. Keep extra sheets refrigerated until needed.
Use parchment paper in the basket for easy cleanup.
