- 1/2 cup (115g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup (100g) grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup (240ml) milk (plus extra for brushing)
- 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
- Optional: chopped chives or herbs
Method
🔹 1. Preheat Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (356°F) for 5 minutes.
🔹 2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine:
- flour
- baking powder
- salt
- mustard powder
🔹 3. Rub in Butter
Add cubed cold butter and rub it into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs.
🔹 4. Add Cheese
Stir in the grated cheese (and herbs if using).
🔹 5. Add Milk
Pour in the milk gradually and mix until a soft dough forms.
If dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour.
🔹 6. Shape the Scones
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
- Pat it into a 2–3 cm thick round.
- Cut into 8–10 wedges using a knife or cutter.
🔹 7. Air Fry
- Place scones in the air fryer basket in a single layer (don’t overcrowd).
- Brush the tops with a little milk or egg wash for a golden finish.
- Cook at 180°C for 15 minutes.
📌 Tip: If they’re browning too quickly, cover with foil for the last 5 minutes.
🔹 8. Serve
Let them cool for a few minutes, then enjoy warm with:
✅ butter
✅ jam
✅ or extra cheese
