Ingredients
- 6 slices (about 360 g) sandwich bread
- 2 medium pears, thinly sliced
- 3 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups (360 ml) milk
- ⅓ cup (70 g) brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) caramel sauce
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Butter each slice of bread and cut them into triangles.
Layer half of the bread triangles in a greased baking dish and add a layer of thinly sliced pears on top.
Repeat with another layer of the rest of the bread and pears.
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered bread and pears, ensuring everything is soaked.
Let it rest for about 10 minutes to absorb the mixture.
Drizzle lightly with caramel sauce on top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until puffy and golden brown.
Serve warm, either plain or with a dollop of extra caramel sauce.
Healthier or Lighter Swaps
- Use whole grain or gluten-free bread to make the bake more nutritious.
- Substitute unsweetened applesauce for half of the butter for a lighter version.
- Use low-fat milk for a lighter custard.
