ππ§ Cheesy Sloppy Joe Toast Recipe
π Ingredients:
For the Sloppy Joe Filling:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Β½ green bell pepper, diced (optional)
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- Β½ cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- Β½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
For the Toast:
- 4β6 thick slices of bread (sourdough, French, or sandwich bread work well)
- 1Β½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
- Butter or olive oil for brushing the bread (optional)
- Fresh parsley or chives for garnish (optional)
π₯ Instructions:
1. Make the Sloppy Joe Filling:
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper. SautΓ© until soft, about 3β4 minutes.
- Stir in tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and smoked paprika.
- Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5β7 minutes until thickened.
2. Prepare the Toast:
- Preheat your oven broiler (or air fryer to 400Β°F/200Β°C).
- Lightly brush bread slices with butter or olive oil (optional for extra crispiness).
- Place on a baking sheet and lightly toast one side under the broiler for 1β2 minutes until just golden.
3. Assemble & Bake:
- Flip the toast and spoon a generous amount of sloppy joe filling onto the untoasted side.
- Top with shredded cheese.
- Return to the broiler for 2β4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
4. Serve:
- Garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired.
- Serve hot with pickles or a simple side salad.
