cheese stuffed bagel bombs

Ingredients:

  • For the Bagel Dough:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
    • 1 cup warm water
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • For the Cheese Filling:
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • ½ cup cream cheese, softened
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • For Boiling:
    • 1 tablespoon baking soda
    • Water (for boiling)
  • For Topping:
    • 1 tablespoon melted butter
    • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
    • 1 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bagel Dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
    • Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours or until it doubles in size.
  2. Make the Cheese Filling:
    • In a small bowl, mix together mozzarella cheese, cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley (if using). Set aside.
  3. Shape the Bagel Bombs:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Punch down the dough and divide it into 8-10 equal pieces.
    • Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it out with your hands.
    • Place a spoonful of the cheese mixture in the center of each flattened dough circle.
    • Carefully fold the edges of the dough around the cheese and pinch the dough to seal it into a ball.
    • Place each stuffed dough ball onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Boil the Bagel Bombs:
    • In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
    • Gently drop the bagel bombs into the boiling water (2-3 at a time), and boil them for about 1 minute, turning them halfway through.
    • Remove from the water and place them back on the baking sheet.
  5. Bake the Bagel Bombs:
    • Brush the tops of the bagel bombs with melted butter.
    • Sprinkle sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning on top if desired.
    • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Serve:
    • Let the bagel bombs cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
