Sautéed Mushrooms Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) of fresh mushrooms (such as cremini, white button, or a mix)
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme leaves (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce (optional, for extra umami)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms:
    • Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel or gently rinsing them under cold water. Pat dry with a paper towel.
    • Slice the mushrooms into even pieces, about ¼ inch thick.
  2. Heat the Pan:
    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and bubbling.
  3. Sauté the Mushrooms:
    • Add the mushrooms in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the pan; if necessary, sauté in batches.
    • Let the mushrooms cook undisturbed for about 4-5 minutes until they are golden brown on one side.
  4. Flip and Season:
    • Flip the mushrooms and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes until browned.
    • Add the minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine. If using, add the soy sauce for an extra umami kick.
    • Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the garlic is fragrant and the mushrooms are tender.
  5. Finish with Herbs:
    • If desired, add fresh thyme leaves and chopped parsley. Stir to combine and cook for another minute.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove from heat and serve immediately as a side dish, over steak, with pasta, or as a topping for toast.
