Teriyaki pork strips
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of pork loin or tenderloin, thinly sliced into strips
- 1/2 cup of soy sauce
- 1/4 cup of mirin (sweet rice wine)
- 1/4 cup of sake (Japanese rice wine) or dry white wine
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger to make the teriyaki sauce. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Place the pork strips in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag and pour half of the teriyaki sauce over the pork. Reserve the other half for later.
- Marinate the pork in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, but longer if possible (a few hours or even overnight for better flavor absorption).
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Remove the pork from the marinade and allow any excess liquid to drain off.
- Add the pork strips to the hot skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and have a nice caramelized exterior.
- Pour the reserved teriyaki sauce into the skillet and bring it to a boil. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes to thicken slightly.
- Serve the teriyaki pork strips hot, drizzled with the thickened sauce. You can garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
- Teriyaki pork strips are often served over a bed of steamed rice or with stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal….
