🥟 Savory Puff Pastry with Minced Meat and Cheese
Ingredients:
- 1–2 sheets puff pastry, thawed (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 lb (225 g) ground beef or lamb
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional but recommended)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions:
1. Prep Puff Pastry:
- Thaw puff pastry according to package directions (usually 30–40 minutes at room temp).
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Cook the Meat Filling:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add onion and cook 2–3 minutes until soft.
- Add garlic, then stir in ground beef or lamb. Cook until browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Season with salt, pepper, cumin, and paprika.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
3. Assemble the Pastries:
- On a floured surface, roll out puff pastry if needed. Cut into squares or rectangles (approx. 4–5 inches wide).
- Add a spoonful of the meat mixture to the center of each piece.
- Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- Fold over into a triangle or rectangle, pressing edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush the tops with egg wash (beaten egg).
4. Bake:
- Place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
5. Cool & Serve:
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
