SALTED CARAMEL CRACKER BITES
Ingredients:
- For the Base:
- 1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
- For the Caramel Layer:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- For the Topping:
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as pecans or almonds)
- Sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions:
- Prepare Baking Sheet:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Arrange Crackers:
- Place the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. You may need to break some crackers to fit the sheet.
- Make the Caramel:
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the brown sugar and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Once it starts boiling, let it cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring continuously, until the mixture thickens and becomes a rich caramel color.
- Spread Caramel:
- Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading it out with a spatula to cover all the crackers.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly and starting to brown.
- Add Chocolate:
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer.
- Let the chocolate chips sit for a few minutes to soften, then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel.
- Add Toppings:
- If desired, sprinkle the chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt over the melted chocolate.
- Cool and Break:
- Allow the caramel and chocolate to cool completely. For quicker cooling, you can place the baking sheet in the refrigerator.
- Once fully set, break into pieces.
