Salmon Patties (Salmon Cakes)

Ingredients

  • 1 (14–15 oz) can salmon, drained and flaked
    (remove skin/bones if desired)
  • 1 large egg
  • ⅓ cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon or yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp finely diced onion
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (or dill)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 2–3 tbsp oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix
    In a bowl, combine salmon, egg, breadcrumbs, mayo, mustard, onion, lemon juice, parsley, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form patties
    Shape into 6–8 patties. If mixture feels soft, chill 10–15 minutes.
  3. Cook
    Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    Cook patties 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through.
  4. Drain & serve
    Transfer to paper towels. Serve hot.

  • With tartar sauce or lemon aioli
  • Over a salad
  • On a bun as a salmon burger
  • With mac & cheese or coleslaw

Variations & Tips

  • Crispier: Use panko instead of regular breadcrumbs.
  • Southern-style: Add a pinch of Old Bay or Cajun seasoning.
  • No mayo: Substitute Greek yogurt.
  • Air fryer: 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, flip halfway.
