Salisbury Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Mushroom Gravy
Ingredients
For the Salisbury Steak:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup almond flour
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp butter (for frying)
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 cup mushrooms (sliced)
- ½ cup beef broth
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
- ¼ tsp xanthan gum (for thickening)
For the Mashed Cauliflower:
- 1 medium head cauliflower (chopped)
- 2 tbsp butter
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Salisbury Steaks
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, egg, almond flour, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Form into 3-4 oval-shaped patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tbsp butter. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Mushroom Gravy
- In the same skillet, add 1 tbsp butter and sauté mushrooms until soft.
- Pour in beef broth, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Sprinkle xanthan gum and whisk well to thicken. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
- Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet and simmer for another 5 minutes.
Step 3: Make the Mashed Cauliflower
- Boil or steam cauliflower until soft. Drain well.
- Blend with butter, heavy cream, Parmesan, salt, and pepper until smooth.
