Preparation Time:

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 45-50 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour
Servings: 4-6
Ingredients:

4 large golden potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter version)
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
2 garlic cloves, minced
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh herbs (such as thyme, rosemary, or parsley), optional
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions:

Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×9-inch or 8×8-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
Prepare the Potatoes:
Peel and thinly slice the golden potatoes into even slices (about 1/8-inch thick). You can use a mandoline slicer for uniform slices.
Prepare the Cream Mixture:
In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
Layer the Potatoes:
Start layering the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Arrange the slices tightly, overlapping slightly.
Pour about a third of the cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
Repeat the process of layering potatoes and pouring cream, finishing with the remaining cream mixture on top.
Add the Cheese:
Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top layer of potatoes. If using, also sprinkle the grated Parmesan over the cheese for an extra crispy, golden topping.
Bake:
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30-35 minutes.
After 30-35 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and crispy.
Serve:
Let the potato bake cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh herbs (like parsley or thyme) if desired.
Serve as a side dish to your favorite protein or enjoy it as a hearty vegetarian meal.
