Put raw apple slices in a slow cooker with these 3 ingredients. Comfort food at its best.

Ingredients

6 pounds of apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Directions

Place the sliced apples into the slow cooker.

Add the sugar, cinnamon, and cloves, stirring to combine.

Cover and cook on low for 10 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thickened and dark brown.

Uncover and continue cooking on low for an additional 2 hours.

Use an immersion blender to puree the apple butter until smooth, or transfer to a blender in batches.

Allow to cool, then store in airtight containers in the refrigerator or process in a water bath for longer storage.

For a deeper flavor, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract or a pinch of nutmeg. If you prefer a less sweet version, reduce the sugar to 1.5 cups or use a natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup. For a spicier kick, increase the amount of cloves or add a bit of ground ginger. You can also experiment with different apple varieties to achieve your desired taste and texture, such as using a mix of tart and sweet apples.
