Macaroni cheese air fry

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional topping: breadcrumbs or crushed crackers

Instructions:

  1. Cook Macaroni: Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the cooked macaroni and set aside.
  2. Prepare Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste (roux). Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
  3. Season Sauce: Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the sauce, stirring to combine. Cook the sauce for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  4. Add Cheese: Reduce the heat to low and gradually stir in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth, creating a creamy cheese sauce.
  5. Combine Macaroni and Cheese Sauce: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, stirring until the macaroni is evenly coated.
  6. Prepare Air Fryer Basket: Lightly grease the basket of your air fryer with cooking spray or a small amount of butter to prevent sticking.
  7. Transfer to Air Fryer: Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to the greased air fryer basket, spreading it out evenly.
  8. Optional Topping: If desired, sprinkle breadcrumbs or crushed crackers over the top of the macaroni and cheese for added texture and crunch.
  9. Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3 minutes. Once preheated, place the basket in the air fryer and cook the macaroni and cheese for 10-12 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  10. Serve: Once cooked, remove the macaroni and cheese from the air fryer and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve hot as a delicious and comforting side dish or main course….
