Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 cups (150g) chopped cabbage (about 1/2 small head)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the Beef and Onion:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil or butter.
    • Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
    • Add the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
    • Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, thyme, oregano, and garlic powder (if using). Mix well.
  3. Prepare the Cabbage:
    • While the beef is cooking, chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
    • In a separate large skillet, heat a bit of olive oil or butter over medium heat.
    • Add the chopped cabbage and cook until tender and slightly caramelized, about 7-10 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  4. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture and the cooked cabbage. Mix well.
  5. Assemble the Casserole:
    • Transfer the beef and cabbage mixture to a greased 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish or a similar-sized oven-safe dish.
    • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses evenly over the top.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are slightly golden.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. This will help the cheese set a bit and make serving easier.
