Ingredients

  • 1 large jicama or 2 medium turnips (jicama is slightly sweeter; turnip has a more potato-like flavor)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil

  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ¼ tsp chili powder or a pinch of cayenne for a spicy kick

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Jicama/Turnips:
    • Peel the jicama or turnips and cut them into thin, fry-shaped sticks.
    • (Optional) Boil the cut jicama or turnips in salted water for 10–12 minutes. This step helps soften them slightly, making them closer to the texture of potato fries.
  2. Season the Fries:
    • Drain the boiled jicama/turnips if boiled, and pat them dry with a paper towel.
    • In a large bowl, toss the fries with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and any optional spices.
  3. Bake the Fries:
    • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
    • Spread the fries on the baking sheet in a single layer, ensuring they aren’t too close together.
    • Bake for 20–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fries are golden brown and crispy.
  4. Serve:
    • Let them cool slightly, then serve with your favorite keto-friendly dipping sauce like sugar-free ketchup, mayo, or garlic aioli.

Tips

  • Air Fryer: For extra crispiness, cook the fries in an air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 15–20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • Cheese Topping: For added flavor, sprinkle parmesan or cheddar cheese during the last few minutes of baking.

Enjoy your keto fries!
