🌿🧀 Herb and Cheese Scones

🧾 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 2 tbsp fresh herbs, chopped (e.g., parsley, chives, thyme, or rosemary)
  • 3/4 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 large egg

🔪 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven:
    • Preheat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Cut in butter:
    • Add cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work butter into the flour until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. Add cheese & herbs:
    • Stir in shredded cheese and chopped herbs.
  5. Add wet ingredients:
    • In a small bowl, whisk milk and egg together.
    • Pour into the flour mixture and stir gently until just combined (do not overmix).
  6. Shape & cut:
    • Turn dough out onto a floured surface and gently pat into a 1-inch thick round.
    • Cut into 8 wedges (like a pizza) or use a round cutter to make individual scones.
  7. Bake:
    • Place scones on the baking sheet and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown on top.
  8. Cool & serve:
    • Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve with butter, clotted cream, or a little honey.
  • Great alongside soup, salad, or eggs.

💡 Tips:

  • Use chilled ingredients and handle dough gently for flaky scones.
  • Mix up the herbs: try dill, basil, or tarragon for different flavor profiles.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne or smoked paprika for a subtle kick.
