Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, sourdough, or your preferred type)
  • 2-3 slices of cheese (Cheddar, American, Swiss, or your favorite)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter (softened)
  • Optional fillings:
    • Tomato slices
    • Cooked bacon
    • Caramelized onions
    • Pickles

Instructions:

  1. Butter the Bread: Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread. This will be the outer side that gets grilled.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Place the first slice of bread, buttered side down, on a cutting board or plate.
    • Layer the cheese slices on top of the bread.
    • Add any optional fillings (tomato, bacon, etc.) if desired.
    • Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  3. Heat the Pan: Place a skillet or griddle on the stove over medium heat. Let it heat up for a minute or two.
  4. Grill the Sandwich:
    • Place the assembled sandwich in the hot pan.
    • Cook for 2-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted.
    • Adjust the heat if the bread is browning too quickly or not quickly enough.
  5. Serve:
    • Remove the sandwich from the pan and let it sit for a minute before slicing it in half.
    • Serve hot, with a side of soup, salad, or pickles if you like.

Tips:

  • For extra crispy sandwiches, use a panini press.
  • Mixing different types of cheese can add more depth of flavor.
