For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil or canola oil (for deep frying or shallow pan frying)

For Serving:

  • Marinara sauce or spicy tomato dipping sauce

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Prep the Filling

  • Unwrap mozzarella sticks or cut a block of mozzarella into thick batons (~3″ long, ½” wide).
  • Pat dry to remove moisture.

2. Wrap the Cheese

  • Place a mozzarella stick diagonally on an egg roll wrapper.
  • Optional: Add a slice of pepperoni or a basil leaf for extra flavor.
  • Fold in sides and roll tightly like a burrito.
  • Brush the edge with beaten egg to seal the roll.
  • Repeat with remaining cheese sticks.

🧊 Pro tip: Chill the wrapped rolls in the freezer for 10–15 minutes before frying. This helps prevent the cheese from leaking out too early.

3. Bread Them (Optional for Extra Crunch)

  • Dredge each roll in flour → dip in beaten egg → coat in breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder and oregano.
  • This gives a crunchier exterior similar to deep-fried mozzarella sticks.

4. Fry the Rolls

  • Heat about 1–2 inches of oil in a pan to 350–375°F (175–190°C).
  • Carefully place rolls in the hot oil and fry for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  • Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

✅ You can also air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through.

5. Serve

  • Serve hot with warm marinara sauce or garlic aioli for dipping.

🔄 Variations:

  • Spicy: Add a slice of jalapeño or chili flakes inside the roll.
  • Herby: Mix Italian herbs into the breadcrumbs.
  • Buffalo-style: Toss the fried rolls in buffalo sauce and serve with ranch.
