chicken wings in an air fryer

Ingredients:
2 pounds (about 900g) chicken wings
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your spice preference)
Cooking spray (optional, for the air fryer basket)
Instructions:
Prep the Chicken Wings:
Start by washing and drying the chicken wings thoroughly with paper towels. This helps achieve crispy skin.
Trim any excess fat or skin if desired.
Season the Wings:
In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to create a seasoning blend.
Coat the Chicken Wings:
Add the chicken wings to the seasoning mixture and toss them until they are evenly coated with the seasoning.
Preheat the Air Fryer:
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes. Some air fryers might not require preheating, so consult your appliance’s manual.
Arrange the Wings in the Air Fryer Basket:
Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking, although this step is optional. You can also use parchment paper or a silicone liner for easier cleanup.
Arrange the seasoned chicken wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving some space between each wing to allow for proper air circulation.
Cook the Wings:
Cook the wings in the air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your wings and the specific air fryer model you’re using.
Check for Doneness:
To ensure the wings are cooked thoroughly, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Chicken wings should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Serve:
Once the wings are done and crispy, remove them from the air fryer. You can serve them immediately with your favorite dipping sauces, such as buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, or blue cheese dressing.
Notes:
Air fryers can vary in cooking times, so it’s essential to monitor the wings as they cook and adjust the time as needed.
You can customize the seasoning to your taste. Add more or less cayenne pepper for spiciness, or try other seasonings like lemon pepper, barbecue rub, or teriyaki sauce for different flavors.
If you’re cooking a large batch of wings, you may need to cook them in batches to ensure they cook evenly and become crispy.
Be cautious not to overcrowd the air fryer basket, as this can result in less crispy wings.
Remember to follow your specific air fryer’s instructions, as cooking times and temperatures can vary from one model to another.
