๐Ÿง€ Cheese-Stuffed Potato Balls

๐Ÿ”ฅ Ingredients (Makes ~12 balls)

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (chilled works best) ๐Ÿฅ”
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix) ๐Ÿง€
  • ยฝ cup breadcrumbs (plus more for coating if needed)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ยผ tsp garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or avocado)

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿณ Instructions

1. Make the Potato Mixture

In a bowl, combine:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper
Mix until a soft, moldable dough forms. If it feels too soft, add a bit more breadcrumbs.

2. Form & Fill the Balls
  • Scoop ~2 tbsp of potato mixture and flatten into a disc in your palm.
  • Place a small cube or pinch of shredded cheese in the center.
  • Carefully wrap the potato around the cheese, forming a sealed ball.
  • Repeat until all mixture is used.

๐Ÿง€ Tip: Chill the balls for 15โ€“20 minutes before frying โ€” helps them hold shape.

3. Bread the Balls (Optional for Extra Crunch)

Set up a simple breading station:

  • Roll each ball in beaten egg, then coat with breadcrumbs for a crunchy shell.

4. Fry Until Golden
  • Heat oil in a deep pan (about 2 inches deep) to 350ยฐF / 175ยฐC.
  • Fry the potato balls in batches for 2โ€“3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Drain on paper towels.

Air Fryer Option:
Brush balls lightly with oil. Air fry at 375ยฐF (190ยฐC) for 10โ€“12 minutes, shaking halfway.

๐ŸŒฟ Serving Ideas

  • Serve with sour cream, ranch, or marinara.
  • Add chopped herbs (like chives or parsley) to the potato mix for extra flavor.
  • Spice it up with chili flakes or hot sauce.
