Ingredients:
For the fritters:
- 2 cups green apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith works best)
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ⅔ cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Optional glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
🔪 Instructions:
- Prep the apples:
- Toss diced apples with 1 tbsp sugar and ½ tsp cinnamon in a bowl. Set aside.
- Make the batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and ¼ cup sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and vanilla until combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix just until combined (don’t overmix).
- Fold in the cinnamon apples and ½ cup caramel sauce.
- Heat the oil:
- In a deep pot or skillet, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Use a candy or deep-fry thermometer to maintain the right temperature.
- Fry the fritters:
- Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, a few at a time to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Glaze (optional):
- Whisk powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Drizzle over warm fritters or dip them for a full glaze.
- Drizzle with caramel:
- Warm extra caramel sauce slightly and drizzle generously over fritters before serving.
