🥩 Beef Liver & Onions (Air Fryer Method)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef liver
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter (divided)
  • ½ cup milk (for soaking – important!)

Instructions

1. Prep the Liver (Don’t Skip This!)

  1. Rinse liver and remove any visible membrane.
  2. Slice into ½-inch pieces.
  3. Soak in milk for 30–60 minutes in the fridge.
    • This removes bitterness and softens texture.
  4. Drain and pat completely dry.

2. Season & Coat

  • In a bowl, mix:
    • Flour
    • Salt
    • Pepper
    • Paprika
    • Garlic powder
  • Lightly dredge liver slices in flour mixture.
  • Shake off excess (don’t overcoat).

3. Cook the Onions

  1. Toss sliced onions with 1 tbsp oil or butter.
  2. Air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 8–10 minutes, shaking once.
  3. Remove and set aside.

4. Air Fry the Liver

  1. Preheat air fryer to 380°F (193°C).
  2. Lightly spray basket with oil.
  3. Place liver slices in a single layer.
  4. Spray tops lightly with oil.
  5. Air fry for 6–8 minutes total, flipping halfway.

⚠️ Do not overcook — liver should be just cooked through and tender.


5. Combine

  • Add onions back on top of the liver.
  • Air fry together 2 more minutes to warm through.

Serve Immediately

  • Great with mashed potatoes, gravy, or fried potatoes
  • Best eaten hot and fresh 😋
