BEEF AND BROCCOLI STIR FRY

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated or minced
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the thinly sliced beef in a single layer and let it sear without moving for about 1-2 minutes until browned. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until browned and cooked through.
    • Remove beef from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  3. Stir Fry Vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil if needed.
    • Add minced garlic and ginger, stirring constantly for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
    • Add broccoli florets (and bell pepper, if using) to the skillet. Stir fry for 3-4 minutes until the broccoli is tender-crisp.
  4. Combine Everything:
    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables.
    • Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and vegetables in the skillet. Stir well to combine and coat everything evenly.
    • Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce has thickened and everything is heated through.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve hot over cooked rice.
    • Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
