American Goulash (Ground Beef)

Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef (preferably lean)
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large green bell pepper, diced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add chopped onions and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onions are translucent.
- Stir in the diced green bell pepper and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, uncooked elbow macaroni, beef broth, oregano, basil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Mix well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the macaroni is tender, stirring occasionally.
- If the mixture becomes too thick, you can add a bit more beef broth or water.
- Once the macaroni is cooked, taste and adjust the seasonings if necessary.
- If desired, top each serving with shredded cheddar cheese and let it melt.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve hot.
