2 slices of your favorite bread
2-4 slices of cheese (such as cheddar, American, or Swiss)
Butter or margarine, softened
Optional additions: sliced tomatoes, cooked bacon, caramelized onions, etc.
Preheat your air fryer to around 350-375°F (175-190°C). Preheating will help ensure even cooking and a crispy exterior.
While the air fryer is preheating, butter one side of each slice of bread. This will be the side that faces outward in the air fryer.
Place the slices of cheese and any optional additions between the two slices of bread, with the buttered side facing outward.
Carefully place the prepared sandwich in the air fryer basket. You can use a little non-stick cooking spray on the basket or parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Cook the sandwich in the air fryer for about 4-6 minutes, flipping it halfway through the cooking time. Cooking times may vary based on your specific air fryer model, so keep an eye on it to avoid burning.
The sandwich is done when it is golden brown on the outside, and the cheese is completely melted inside. You can cook it longer for a crispier exterior.
Carefully remove the grilled cheese sandwich from the air fryer. Let it cool for a minute before slicing it in half, and then enjoy!
